Buckle up, Descendants fans. This is what you’ve been waiting for: confirmation of the third installment of the Disney Channel movie franchise is finally here.
As noted by Just Jared Jr., Disney confirmed that Descendants 3 is in the works…and there’s even a teaser trailer to tide you over until the big premiere date. The clip, while only 30 seconds long, delivers enough suspense guaranteed to fuel plenty of fan theories.
In the teaser, we see Mal (played by a purple-haired Dove Cameron) walking through an enchanted forest as mysterious music plays in the background. As the tension builds, she approaches a glowing light in the middle of the trees — one that is whispering her name. (Not creepy at all.) Finally, she looks directly at it and asks one word: “Dad?!” Of course, it ends there, leaving tons of room for speculation.
Fans had been suspicious that a Descendants 3 announcement was on the way ever since Disney revealed that “major DCOM news was coming” on Friday, February 16. But it wasn’t just the vague hint that caused fans to be curious; some eagle-eyed viewers also noticed the signature red apple logo of the Descendants franchise. There’s nothing more satisfying than when fan theories turn out to be correct, am I right?
Unfortunately, we have a little longer to wait until we can watch the third Descendants film in full; the movie reportedly won’t be here until 2019. In the mean time, we’ll just have to re-watch the first and second — and work on our predictions for what might unfold in the next installment.
